PETITIONS = VICTORY!!

Signing petitions is one way to help animals get justice (if there is such a thing), and it's an effective way to make sure people get the maximum penalty allowed by law.  I think animal cruelty, even though taken more seriously now than before, is still not taken seriously enough! People get a slap on the wrist for unspeakable, horrific crimes.
Really, I feel if someone murders an animal, he/she should go to jail just as if murdering a person.  In a way, it's even worse because the animal is  helpless and defenseless.
Plus, there's a known correlation between those who kill and torture animals and those who kill and/or torture people, such as Jeffrey Dahmer, Son of Sam, the DC Sniper, Ted Bundy, and too many more.

URGENT!! HELP STOP BULL TORTURE FESTIVAL IN MEXICO:
Every year on February 1 in Tlacotalpan—a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz—bulls are horrifically tortured during the Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria festival. Liquor is poured down the bulls' throats, and the animals are tied to boats and dragged across a river before being set loose in the streets. Participants then chase, beat, and stab the terrified animals with bats and knives. The torture continues for hours as drunken residents throw bricks and trash at the animals, kick and punch them, and cut off their ears. Surviving bulls are then turned out to pasture, no doubt left to suffer from their injuries.

HELP STOP CIRCUS CRUELTY:
In their native homelands, the animals you see in circuses are free to walk and run, choose lifetime companions, and raise their families. Tragically, these animals are held captive by circuses such as Ringling Bros. and are forced to perform confusing acts night after night for 48 to 50 weeks every year. In order to get these animals to perform stressful acts, Ringling trainers use whips, sticks, and bullhooks with metal tips that are jabbed into elephants’ sensitive skin on their thighs and behind their ears. Between acts, elephants are kept chained up like bicycles or confined to cramped pens, and tigers are stored in cages that are barely even large enough for them to turn around.

TELL WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY TO STOP INHUMANE DOG EXPERIMENTS:
Let Allan Gilmour, president of Wayne State University, know you want him to immediately halt the use of dogs in the university's inhumane heart experiments.  Wayne State University’s ongoing use of dogs in heart failure experiments is cruel and should be stopped before any more dogs suffer.  Dogs in these experiments experience severe unrelieved pain and distress.  Wayne State University should focus on advancing human-based research, such as epidemiological studies, clinical trials, and computer modeling.

ASK REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATORS TO SUPPORT THIS BILL:
One of the worst industrial farming abuses is the confinement of hens to barren battery cages, where hens are crammed together with little room to move – let alone flap their wings. Congress is currently considering ground-breaking, bi-partisan legislation that will outlaw the most restrictive and barren battery cages and vastly improve the welfare of egg-laying hens in the U.S.
Using this link, you can contact your Representative and Senators to politely urge them to support HR 3798/S 3239 - the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/405/015/443/send-worlds-loneliest-elephant-to-thailand/
SEND THE WORLD'S LONELIEST LION TO THAILAND:
Mali the elephant has spent 33 lonely years in a concrete pen in the Philippines, and it's killing her. But still the government won't allow her to go to a better place.
Torn from her family at age three, she was sent to Manila as a gift to then-President Ferdinand Marcos. She has since lived three decades of her life at the capital city's zoo isolated from other elephants, with only a small pool for entertainment. She suffers from severe depression and damage to her feet, the leading cause of death to zoo elephants.

ASK AIRLINES TO STOP SHIPPING MONKEYS TO BE TORTURED:
Monkeys were hooked to their cages with a metal tether through which ice-cold saline solution and test chemicals were continuously dripped into their veins.  Workers handled monkeys so violently that the animals suffered from bloodied noses, broken fingers and toes, and bruises to their bodies.  Monkeys were tied for many hours in restraint chairs with their arms and legs kept entirely immobile as drugs were injected intravenously over the course of a day.  The traumatized monkeys are crammed into small wooden crates and transported in the backs of trucks and in the dark and terrifying cargo holds of airplanes, often on passenger flights just below unsuspecting customers.

TELL MASTERCARD: STOP SUPPORTING THE LIVE DOLPHIN TRADE:

Ask Mastercard to end their promotion with RWS and send a strong message to the resort that kidnapping wild dolphins isn't acceptable. Tell them to do business with other theme parks and stop promoting the live dolphin trade.

  5. These people who tourture these animals no matter puppy or old, should have their hands cut off. Cut their hands off so they can't help themselves. I know one thing, If someone killed my dog with a pitchfork, They would be in the hospital on a respirator.

On another note, the slaughterhose act is good but not all slaughterhouses do that. I live down the road from a slaughterhouse that takes care of dying horses and cows. They hang them for a guaranteed somewhat painless death. I find this more humane rather than watching the animal suffer.

    1. Didn't you say the other day that they used a .22 straight to the back of the head so the animal doesn't even know?? I mean you are completely right... If anyone killed my puppy "Caramèl" They would not make it to the hospital. How do people have the audacity to tourture animals like that?

  6. Reading the first story about the puppies was enough for me. Not only is it horrible for the animals but I can't even imagine the trauma this poor woman is going to deal with for the rest of her life now...witnessing that while being abused herself is just something so awful and I sympathize for the women and those memories she will now have forever. I wish this country believed in equal justice because this man should have done to him everything that he did to those animals.

  7. Unfortunately, poachers are sneaky and extremely hard to catch. I think the saying, " Do to others as you want done to you," is the best saying, no matter if you're human or animal. A skinned, shot, and/or slaughtered person for a skinned, shot, and/or slaughtered animal. A person that kills another human being gets life in prison or the death penalty should get the same for killing an animal.

  8. I will sign the petitions. The article about Jeffery Nally really allowed me to realize the severity of animal cruelty. I'm happy he was caught and I hope that he gets the help needed in jail to realize his evil ways. As I was reading the article I just was wondering want happened in his life to kill all those animals, and harm his girlfriend. He was on the path to killing someone which is quite scary.

  9. I strongly agree that animal cruelty is totally unacceptable and anyone killing an animal with intent to satisfy his/her interest should be held accountable.Unfortunatley, on Bull Fighting, my community considers the event as a social tie and the winning Bull and its entire community is highly regarded and treated with respect.

  10. Reading these articles made my stomach turn. People are so heartless and do not realize that animals have feelings too. It is sickening to me that people can actually do these types of things to animals. If they can do it to animals what makes them think twice about doing it to people. I think people need this done to them to see how they feel. I could and would never do anything to harm an animal the way people do on a regular basis. People make me sick.

  11. The one that stands out to me is the South Africn bull fighting. If your crazy enough to get in a ring with a bull with no weapons, can keep doing that. plus it's their culture and these people are brought up this way. You can't change beliefs and culture that runs that deep.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I do have a question though. What is a humane way to kill an animal? I have read that gassing them is inhumane, slitting their throat is as well and hanging them is taboo. So what Is humane? We have to do something, the shelters are filling up quick and if we don't get rid of them what are we gonna do?

  13. I saw that there is a bull fighting report on here. I find bull fighting to be an equally dangerous sport for both the bull and the matador. The bull has just as good a chance to kill the fighter as the fighter has to kill the bull. In fact many matadors die by being trampled and gorged by the bull's horns.

    1. I completely agree with you there are so many cases of animal cruelty that happen every day but many times if the person is caught I don't feel like the punishment fits the crime. Many times they get off easy with probation or a fine unless they have done it many times. They need to be harder on people who are charged with animal cruelty.

  17. I have had friends that had a little dog. The dog was purposely hit and killed standing in the driveway. People that intentionally hurt animals need to be taught by their own actions. If I ran over someone with a car, I would never see the light of day again yet all of these people are getting away with this nonsense like it is nothing. I agree with Ryann, there needs to be a harsher punishment for people the deliberately hurt and kill animals

  18. Any person who tortures a defenseless animal deserves to be tortured themself. How could someone pour boiling water onto a dog or any animal at that? Although some countries are culturally adapted to the killing of animals, America is not. Americans do not need to torture animals, enough animals are killed in slaughter houses to be used as food.

  19. I think that petitions are great and that they work. I have never signed one online, but in my high school I signed one so that a male friend of mine would be allowed to take his boyfriend to Prom as a date. I feel if there is something that you feel so passionate about and like you can't do anything to help make a petition. If you feel that strongly there is probably more people that feel the same way. A petition can get things done and like Tashnanna Said there is strength in numbers.

  22. My opinion on the bull fighting is a little different then my other posts. I think the fighting is just as dangerous for the humans as much as the animals and although it is ethically wrong to train a bull to fight, the people are putting themselves in the ring at their own risks.

  87. I think that signing a petition will do absolutely nothing, and it's sad! It's sad that politicians will put this at the bottom of the list because it does nothing to benefit them. Shoving as many dogs as they can in cages, hitting animals, skinning them alive, and slicing their throats...why aren't these people doing these horrendous things in some kind of mental institution??

    ReplyDelete
  88. I feel that it should be illegal. Its illegal to do it to humans so whats the difference from animals? I think petitions are affective. They help spread the word so that they will work eventually.

  89. I believe in the power of petitions. The people have power in numbers. Honestly, I have not considered whether or not potential politicians were animal friendly mainly because I was ignorant to a lot of these facts. I am learning so much from this blog about the unjust treatment of animals and it really concerns me. Now that I am more aware, I will question future potential politicians on their platform in regards to animal cruelty.

  90. The inhumane treatment shown in these cases are heart wrenching. Getting as many people involved by using petitions raise awareness. I had read of this type stuff but its easy to look away from the screen when a horrific scene is there, but what help do I expect to offer these animals. What help is expected if nobody follows through with their outrage??

  91. I completely agree that signing petitions is a very important thing for all of us that care about animals and want to make a change to do. I sign them all of the time and sometimes it seems like it just doesn't cause as much change as I would like, but I guess that it is really important to just keep on trying.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I feel everyone who has a heart and cares should sign the petitions to help change the way animals are treated. They have feelings and they feel pain, so why should people be allowed to torture them and kill them the way that they do? They shouldn't! Its not right and it is disturbing! Every little bit helps and could potentially go a long way and really change things but if no one steps forward and tries to help there will be no change! Something has truly got to give because animal cruelty is not fair and it needs to end.

  93. I think it is the right thing to do when speaking up for animals. Animals are at our mercy. If enough people pitch in to stop animal cruelty and enough people boycotts products or services that use animal harm for production, things will have to turn around for the better of the animals.

  98. I know that petitions and spreading the word about these things are some of the only things that people can try and do for animals but most of the time the petitions don't do anything. The big wigs over there in Washington only care about things that will get them re-elected. So I feel that petitions might actually be the wrong way of going about this. I think that maybe getting celebrity endorsers will be the best bet in this situation. People listen to celebrities like they are more important than politicians anyway in this day and age. Celebrities will be the ticket to get the ball rolling and really save animals.

  100. I think that petitions are such a great idea. I'm personally a member of www.change.org and sign many petitions on the website, including ones for animal rights. This entry really showcases the most inhumane examples of animal cruelty. And these are only the ones that are reported and known about! I'm so against not only things like this, but small examples such as a family keeping their pet dog outside in a cage it's entire life. That is just as much animal cruelty as these instances shown above. By signing these petitions, we can all make a serious change.

  101. I think the petitions are awesome to put something to a stop you have to start somewhere. A lot of people don't know what goes on with animals and behind the scene, this will get more people involved once they know more.

  102. Petitions are a great tool to use if you or an organization feels strongly against something, and they can bring many things to national attention. Animal abuse is getting to where it needs to be, with stronger laws in effect keeping abusers on the watch and keeping them from owning pets in the future and after their crimes. It still is a shame that they are only kept in prison for a pitiful amount of time, and who's to say once they get out they won't capture wild or stray animals and hurt them. I have heard countless numbers of times that serial killers started out killing animals and they enjoy it. They are mentally ill and need to be stopped. Anyone who gets pleasure from killing anything is a threat in my book.

  106. Petitions are a good way to make the politicians take notice and to help get a bill started, it has got to start somewhere. I do NOT accept though, claiming a animal with the same results as a human. Look I am not saying that people who hurt or kill animals shouldn't go to jail, they should without a doubt. What I am saying is a person does not deserve to be prosecuted under the same guide lines, and to say a person should serve a jail term for killing a dog or monkey like a person killing another human is a little far fetched. Animals should be protected, but lets think rationally about this.

  111. These petitions are a great way to make a change. Voices need to be heard and this is a perfect way for each person to make a statement. One individual can only do so much. The impact of many people will a longer lasting impression. Petitions are a great way to make a mark and get the ball rolling, but much more needs to be done to solve these problems. Putting something down on paper for the world to see will only make so much of an impact. These petitions will only help to open others eyes, and help them see the light. Once everyone is on board, physical actions need to be taken for there to be a significant change.

  124. I think that these petitions are awesome. These articles have made it clear that people have to have something wrong with them to harm helpless animals. Any normal person wouldn't go on an animal killing spree, and it's good that people like this are being put behind bars. If an individual has a craving to kill animals, and harm people, they're eventually going to start to murder people. I'm not saying every individual is crazy, some just don't see the harm they're doing by shooting birds, or squirrels. No matter what there should be a punishment, depending on what they have done.

Elephants, like humans, live in groups, otherwise known as herds. To be a lonely elephant would have the same effect as it would to a human, except an elephant can't commit suicide. All it can do is sit. The breaks my heart because my mother committed suicide because of depression. I've seen court cases on television where petitions can benefit the outcome of rulings such as a neighborhood sticking together to not euthanize a dog that bit someone when the actual person was at fault. I believe in petitions if they actually are backing something that needs public support. I think that in most cases of animal cruelty like the underground dog fighting rings or the people who treat their dogs cruelly to the point that they become a danger to society should be punished and to my knowledge are usually punished. If an animal is to the point where they can't be retrained then sadly, I agree that they have to be euthanized which is no different than how we treat humans who are on death row.

I think petitions have a strong message behind their meaning, however, I'm not sure that they will be powerful enough. I think that in order to end animal cruelty, there needs to be blunt hard proof of what animals actually go through. This awful evidence needs to be taken over everyone's heads and straight to the people in charge. The public needs to see and be made aware of what these animals actually go through. I think petitions would enhance the process, however, alone, I don't think they pack quite enough punch. There are so many people blindly supporting animal cruelty, so making them aware will increase the amount of signatures on a petition, which will hopefully make a difference.

I wanted to know more about the whale industry someone mentioned something about in a earlier post. I find all of this stuff just outright disgusting, humans are getting more and more reckless with these animals, I just want to know what did the animals ever do to deserve this kind of treatment.

  178. I just read about how the airlines are treating the monkies. I again don't understand how people get away with such horrible crimes. I fully hope that the petitions getting signed will help the abuse happening with animals. I feel so sad, the videos are such an eye opener to what is happening with animals. As a group I encourage everyone to step up with a plan and visit sites to education people you know about all the violence going on with animals.

  179. Celebrities get exposure for mistreatment of animals. Why can't common people also have the television companies and reporters give them a 30 second segment of the abuse. We have so many people in our country that claim to love animals yet this violent behavior continues.

  180. The maltreatment of these animals is appalling. It's sad to know that these animals are whipped and mistreated during rehearsals. The footage of the elephant rocking back and fourth was really disturbing. I did not know that was one of the signs of animal abuse.

  181. There are so many different forms of animal cruelty, but they are all still cruelty. It's a shame that animals don't receive nearly the same justice as a human would. Unspeakable crimes are committed against them and yet most people who do the crimes don't receive the punishment they deserve. Brandon S.

  182. When do we give precious animals to presidents? They have enough money to take great care of them. So why is there a elephant having do live in a situation that is harmful. They don't have enough resources for this elephant? I'm so saddened by these actions. Give the president a plaque of stature of a elephant. If they gave the elephant a better life than it wouldn't be depressed. Maybe the president that received the elephant as a present should be treated the same way.

  183. The Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria festival? Why is this festival legal? I can’t see why anyone, let alone hundreds of people, would treat these bulls in that way. I don’t understand how people could inflict such pain and torture onto another living being. These poor animals! This should be a crime punishable in the worse way. I completely agree that behavior such as this is unacceptable and should be considered a legal crime.

  184. Although animal abuse has been going on for a while now I think that with this blog alone has given us the opportunity to know what goes on with these animals. Petitions are a great way to getting people's attention and we need to teach society about what goes on in the world. We need influential people do take action and speak up on these wild acts.

  185. I think a petition is a great way to try to make change happen. but with that said I don't believe people think that signing one will make a big change. things like this site helps get the world out but to be real most people wont to help but not if it means they have to change something about them stop. or is that change becomes to hard.

  186. I would definitely sign for petition to stop the cruelty of the animals of any kinds. People who abusively treated animals should be punished.

  187. It's disturbing just seeing that petitions are actually needed, why people would do these things to animals is beyond me, they have a heart beat just as we do and feel pain all the same as us. They're not some plush dolls to be thrown around.

  188. Petitions are a way of getting the violators attention and showing that people can come together for a common cause. It also gets the attention of politicians to show that we are serious about the cause we stand for which is animal rights.

  189. As if we needed one more reason to remind us that Mitt Romney was a cruel human being. Petitions are always helpful in my spare time I always sign a couple of change.org and then share them. It only takes a couple seconds to make a change, so why not help out.

  190. I don't know, I'm on the fence with petitions... I think they're great and most of the time useful and effective, but I like a hands on approach. There's a group of legal thuggish looking fellas from Camden County called "Justice". They're primarily bikers from my understanding that go in and rescue abused animals from deadbeat owners. They're big and muscular type dudes that don't look like they'd take much mess from people. But, since we don't have organizations like that everywhere, petitions will have to suffice. Even the ASPCA has hurdles to jump through to be able to take action, much like getting a warrant to search a known crack house.
