Animal Rights

Animal cruelty is a matter in which I am very passionate. My wish is that people would stop purposely putting animals in harmful situations. There is just no reason for the torment and the torture. Cruelty toward animals should not exist; plus the punishments the criminals receive do not even fit the crimes. Cruelty comes in many varieties: the selling of fur (cats, dogs, rabbits, etc... animals are stuffed and piled into crates and then skinned alive,) fighting of dogs, killing of wildlife, slaughtering of horses, clubbing of seals, testing on animals, and the torture and neglect of family pets, just to name a few.

Another form of cruelty is the killing of animals for human consumption. I have been a vegetarian for the past 18 years. I cannot make people stop eating meat, but the inhumane and cruel ways the animals are killed should stop.

More examples of cruelty: McDonald’s scolds its chickens alive. Ringling Bros. Circus beats its animals. Pigs receive no pain relief when they have their teeth removed with wire cutters. Chickens have their sensitive beaks cut off without painkillers. (Research has proved that chickens are smarter than dogs, cats, and even some primates.) Veal calves are confined to crates so small they can’t even turn around. Many companies test their products on animals; more companies need to work toward cruelty-free methods.

A big problem is over population. Between five and ten million stray cats and dogs live on the streets in America, and people are still allowing their dogs and cats to have more litters. It comes down to responsibility. The average lifespan of a stray animal is less than two years. That is an unnecessary, short, and brutal existence. To quote Bob Barker, “Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.”

Animals depend on us for many things, and we as human beings are obligated to protect them and take care of them. When we stop the suffering and the killing of our animals, we can restore the humanity!

  1. The show Animal cops follows men and women who investigate cases of animal cruelty. They rescue sick and abused animals and fight for their justice. The episodes are heart-wrenching! It is sad how cruel people can be to their pets. The owners/abusers are always taken to court, but the punishments given do not fit their crime. From watching the show, the punishments consist of tickets ranging in price and probation. I beileve this sends a message that it is okay to abuse animals. I think that the punishment should be more harsh!

    1. its hard for me to even watch those shows sometimes just because seeing what the animals look like at the time of rescue is just sad... you see how bad they are hurt and in need of food and it makes you feel so bad for them...

  2. Danni, I agree, the punishments do not fit the crimes. Maybe if the punishments were stiffer then people would know that animal cruelty is no joke, and maybe it would defer other people not to abuse animals. Also there is a known link between people who abuse animals and people who abuse or kill other people. The punishments need to be harsh from the very beginning.

  3. I completely agree that people that abuse their animals, most likely abuse other people. I can not understand how someone can justify hurting animals. I also feel that the punishments do not fit the crimes, that is why it keeps happening. I have a question, does anyone have an opinion on Michael Vick, do you think he recevied an adaquate punishment and do you think he is actually reformed?

  4. My mom's an animal control officer down in Georgia and half the things she has to deal with is utterly repulsive and completely breaks my heart. For instance - she's seen decapitated Pitbulls, Raccoons that were hung by the neck around stop signs, and more grotesque things. Animals are living things that breathe, bleed, and feel just as we do, so why should we be able to treat them any less than we treat other humans? If a person murders another person the crime is a lot more harsh than if a person beats their dog or drowns their kittens. Why should the punishment be any less; they're still living creatures and they still deserve justice so the punishment should be practically equal. And Michael Vick got off pretty much with a slap on the wrist, my theory is mostly because of his fame and talent which I believe is shameful. I think the only reason he's admitting he was wrong and saying he learned his lesson is so he can go back to being a glorified athlete.

  5. Before I read this article I never knew that McDonald’s scolded its chickens alive. This type of behavior is disturbing and makes me not want to eat at McDonald's again! TheNikki I agree with your comparison between animal and human punishment. It is completely unethical. People should be punished at higher stakes if they cause unnecessary pain to any living thing.

  6. There is a direct correlation between killing people and killing animals. Many of our known serial killers harmed animals first, for ex Jeffrey Dahmer, The DC Sniper, Son of Sam, Ted Bundy, just to name a few. I think if people got stiffer punishments then maybe they'd realize it wasn't a joke to hurt animals, and maybe less people would.
And about Mike Vick, NO, I don't think he got long enough for all the dogs that were drowned, electrocuted, beaten, fought, etc, No way!! Killing people is horrible, yes, very true, of course, but killing animals is just as bad, maybe worse in a way because they are completely innocent and harmless and can't fight back. It is ridiculous that we even put up with it like it's no big deal!

  7. My mom works in the county right next to where everything happened with Michael Vick and I'm pretty sure she actually went there and said it was horrendous. I agree completely that animals are more innocent than people and do not deserve to be treated in such inhumane manners. The only reason animals are "bad" or "dangerous" is either cause they were wild or trained to do so. There is no such thing as bad animals, just bad people/trainers behind them.

  8. I don't understand why or how people can cause such harm to animals. Personally I am not even an animal lover and I think it's serioulsy foul for a human to cause any type of harm to an animal. I think it is a good thing that they have such shows as animal cops to protect the rights of animals. Oh, and about Vick I like him, but I think that anyone who fights dogs should get more time then what he got. I think he got a break since he is a well know athlete who has MONEY. He might have learned his lesson, but I don't think he got enough time.

  9. Since taking this course I can not believe how much I did not know on how animals are exploited and abused daily. I have discovered so much that I can not stop thinking about all the different abuse that these poor animals have to endure. The circus abuse was an eye opening lesson and now I am spreading the news of the abuse to everyone I know. My husband and family were shocked to learn what the animals go through. I have discovered a whole new cause in my life, taking care of animals and helping to prevent and stop animal abuse at all levels. Melissa, thank you for making me more aware of what is really going on in the world. Linda

  11. I felt so bad about animals being abused and let to die. I actually joined the Animal Allies Club at my college. I really wanted to make some type of difference. I asked the person that's head of this club if they really go out to see the animals and actually make them feel as though we are there for them. He said "yeah" we do and I was so excited this class really opened my eyes on what really goes on with animals and how they are treated. Animals shouldn't go through the torture and cruelty. It brought tears to my eyes to see those animals so though what they do daily. It really needs to be a law against Animal Testing and all the people that abuse animals should be put under the jail for life. Just as if they killed a human. Brittany.

  14. I hardly think Michael Vick got enough time. It amazes me to think that he was allowed to play professional football after the crimes he orchestrated. I know it may sound horrible of me to say,but I find it disturbing that so many people are such die hard fans of him. I grew up being a fan of the Eagles, and all it took was them to sign him and I jumped ship quick. I can't support a team that would sign a monster. When you have the power and emotinal capability to commit such heinous crimes against innocent animals that tells me two things. 1-your sick in the head 2-you have no values period I think our legal system should prosecute crimes against animals just as they would a crime against a person. I know, I know, people do have the capability of changing and being "reformed" in some circumstances, but not when it involves harming someone or something for kicks.

  15. Most animals have almost thesame organs and systems that humans have. They can feel pains, they can be depressed, they can express happiness and joy, to mention few. Why then do people think they can be cruel to animals? I am in support of more severe punishments to such people so that they will stop being cruel to animals.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree that animals depend on us humans for a lot of things just a new born child and children do. We don't treat our children in such a cruel way why are we doing this to these helpless adorable animals...it's such an outrage..again if we are put to death for killing another human then we should be put to death for killing an animal.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Animals really do depend on us as if they were our children. They are just like kids. I do not even believe my one cat believes his an animal. He expresses himself as if he was a kid he likes to be held, he hugs, and gives kisses, he likes to be where ever i am, and he loves effection. If i were to leave him or put him outside he would not know what to do with himself and i know he would not be able to survive. I would never even think about putting an animal in harms way. Where I live there are many stray cats people will have them and once the grow and are not a kitten any more they do not want them I have found many stray cats homes and also leave out food for them. The one cat that I saved from off the streets and kept ended up being pregnant it was so hard to part with the kittens once they were born but My mother and i made sure that the people we were giving them to would love them and take care of them as we would and not put them on the streets. People deffinately do not get the punishment they should for animal cruelity, if they did there would be a major decrease in all the incidence of animal cruelty we hear about everyday. They should deffinately make better laws

  18. I was shocked to learn what McDonald's does to their chicken. Melissa you offer very beneficial alternatives that should be used, like pet owners being more responsible to help with the over-population. TheNikki, I have to disagree on what you said about Michael Vick, "I think the only reason he's admitting he was wrong and saying he learned his lesson is so he can go back to being a glorified athlete." While I do not in any way agree nor condone what he's done, I honestly believe that he truly is remorseful for his actions. Though I do not actively participate in the abuse of animals, I am in some way involved (I eat meat). However, after seeing the videos and learning how badly animals are treated it made me rethink my decisions. Just like myself, once I became aware of the animal abuse and how bad it really is, I had a change of heart, so who are you to say that the same could not be true for Mike Vick? (Again, I do not condone what he's done nor am I a fan. I'm just making a point that we are humans, we make mistakes and we can learn from them).

  19. I did not know about a lot of these things that animals endure. We as humans are very ignorant. Animals need to be protected by us, not harmed or killed!! I think penalties should be more harsh than they are for cruelty to animals. Maybe people would think twice before doing some of they disgusting things like animal fighting, etc.. The companies that treat the animals badly while waiting to be slaughtered should not be allowed to be in business. I do eat meat, but maybe we should just go back to the old days of raising your own food. Yes, I know that's not possible, but it would stop the manufacturing of animals in inhumane conditions.

  20. If you can abuse a defenseless animal, why couldn't you abuse a defenseless human-being? The punishment for the crime is not a deterrent. Michael Vick is a poor example of a role model for children. All the money and jail time in the world could not convince me that he deserved another chance as a professional football player. He had a position to uphold, as an example to kids that admired him, and he was selfish and cruel in his decision making. I don't believe his situation taught others that what he did was wrong... I don't believe it taught HIM that what he did was wrong either... He just got a raise too. Don't get me started. Go Cowboys! (LOL)

    1. I SO, agree with this. What Micheal Vick and others did was disgraceful. He is not a good role models for kids. They saw him get a slap on the wrist (basically) and move on with his life like nothing happened. He went right back to being a glorified football player making too much money for playing a game.

Although I am a Eagles fan i still agree with you Callie.... after seeing the pictures of the dogs Mike Vick use to bet on with the fights its disgusting to know that he is now a 100 million dollar man only after a couple years of being in jail.

  22. I agree that sometimes the punishment does not fit the crime. The ethical treatment of animals is very important especially those that we raise as food. Some scientist beleive that when Farm raised animals are stressed the hormones that are produced by the animals get into the meat and may be cancer causing or cause other illness. I am not a vegitarian have attempted it but it didnt work out for me. I do however beleive that if we are to use the animals as food we should do it as ethically as possible and use every possible part of the animal so nothing goes to waste.

  23. Until reading and watching a lot of these post and movies, I never knew a lot of these things were going on behind the scenes. I always knew that they killed animals for their assets, but I didnt know that they torture them the way that they do. I personally believe that if they can convict or fine people for certain crimes then they should do the same for killing animals. If you can get a ticket for parking in a handicap spot or a ticket for littering, why can't they get people for animal cruelty?

  26. I completely agree with everything that was said above. Animals are helpless beings and cannot defend themselves in the hands of vicious people. I do believe that whoever tortures or neglects animals should get the same treatment. Also, companies should not test on animals. First, animals do not have the same genes as humans so what might irritate an animal will not irritate a human. After reading another post I started looking for Do Not Test on Animal labels, and I hardly find any. America is being lazy, selfish, and naive to what happens behind closed doors. 29. Many animals can be very good service animals. There are so many people out there that need a service animal/ companion that it is sickening to see all of these animals being killed in the most brutal manner. Even something that is supposed to be fun for children like the circus result in people treating animals in the worst way. People need to stick up for the rights they the animals are not able to.

  30. I completely agree with everything in this blog. I had no idea that they treated the animals the way they do before they kill them, that is ridiculous. There is a way that you can kill them without hurting them however, many companies choose not to use that way. I can not watch the videos of the animals being turtored, it makes me sick to my stomach that people can do that for a living. I would also stop eatting meat if looked at the videos. People who buy pets and then don't pay attention to them, leave them outside all night and day in a little cage its just wrong. Everyone needs to come together and help animals live and be free.

I am not a vegetarian, but choose to eat meat that has come from local farmers who I know and trust have not mistreated their animals. There is a humane way, and inhumane way to slaughter. I support more humane ways and choose to support locally grown meat, rather than meat that has been born and bread on a large factory farm. I feel some of this can be misconstrued to make farmers look like the bad guys. In fact, they are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. This country, as well as any other civilization in the world, was able to developed thanks to agriculture. Do not turn your back on agriculture...just buy local!!

If a person wants an animal they need to want it for the right reasons and also take care of it. There is actually a veal farm down the street from my house. Until last week I had no clue what went on there. My mother-in-law told me that they keep them in such a small area to stop muscle growth because people actually like to eat baby cows. It just makes me sick to my stomach that people could hurt animals with feelings and not have a worry in their mind and go home from work and think it was just another day at work. It was actually a day of unnecessary animal cruelty. Animals have just as much feelings as people and when people do things to animals that is not necessary or harm animals I honestly feel like they should have to go through the same pain that they put the harmless animal through.

  59. People are going to eat meat. I for one, love it. But it still upsets me greatly how the animals are treated and slaughtered. Animals used for us to eat, even though they will be killed, should not have to suffer the harsh conditions beforehand. 69. I don't feel that killing animals for food is wrong. We have been doing it forever, way before there was anything called tofu or humus. With that being said, I would have to strongly agree that animals who are raised and killed for food should have the right to live and die torture and cruelty free. Some of the ways animals are killed are very inhumane and it needs to stop. People will always used "meat" as a primary source of nutrition but that doesn't mean we have to sacrifice the rights of these animals.

  70. I totally agree with everything you said. I do eat meat but I know that the way we get the meat isn't right. They should practice painless death of the animals. Nothing should be done live. It's bad enough we are eating them the least we can do is make it painless. People really need to just step back and think would I want this happening to me or my pet ? Then we can start making some changes.

  71. Responsibility? You mean the buck that keeps getting passed around? It seems impossible to pinpoint problems because no one person is able to claim responsibility for their actions. Hence, everyone is passing the buck. Animal cruelty needs to cease. Animal cruelty is what should be extinct, not the animals hunted for their rarities. No one is asking you to save the end all cruelty and take down multi-million dollar corporations that make a living by breeding, torturing, and neglecting animals. Start in your home, with your animals and take responsibility for their health and happiness.

  72. Animal cruelty, to me, is as bad as child abuse. Abusing something helpless and unable to protect themselves is outrageous and to use it for our "needs" is an outrage also. No animal deserves a life like that and should be treated better and not as items on our walls or in our closets or on our dinner tables.

The second dog was a dog that my son rescued and brought home and I had him neutered as well. I do eat meat but I can say that after reading all of this I don't eat it as often anymore. I'm not saying that I will give it up completely but I will be more aware of where my meat comes from and do more research on the companies I buy products from.

  75. I personally cant stand when people are mean or cruel to animals. I feel as if instead of being cruel to them, they could take the time to find them a new home. Animals can't defend themselves so its not right for humans to take advantage of them and beat on them or neglect them.

  76. I feel that animals as food is a necessity. Although the method that we as a society are unacceptable. New ways are needed so that the animals do no face as much cruelty.

  77. Even though I can never see myself changing my eating habits to completely exclude meat or animal by-products, I am very aware of the torture that they go through before they make it to the plate. I try to make an effort to read where my food is actually coming from. I work at Piccolina Toscana in Wilmington, DE and we are very open about the animals that we have on our mene. Obviously not all of our meats are treated the best, considering we do occasionally have veal on our menu, but we do ensure that other items such as our Salmon is treated humanely. We have Faroe Island Salmon which is basically the closest thing to wild salmon possible while still keeping the fish in a certain area. What they do is enrich the area with the things that the salmon naturally eat and surround themselves with to the extent that the fish simply don't want to leave. That way they are not kept captive, but they also don't go away.

  79. While I do not have much knowledge in many of the topics talked about here, I do have a major interest when it comes to dogs being mistreated. My two year old pitbull ( who already has a bad name due to terrible people and even more misinformed people) was let out of a car on the side of 295 a year and a half ago. A friend luckily happened to be behind the car that let him out. Sadly she could had to choose between catching the animal that let him go or save the dog. Obviously she made the better decision and he has been in my happy home since. No one was ever caught for letting him go and a similar looking dog was rescued about a year later in the same area.

  80. I agree that the treatment of animals that are raised commercially are awful. My husband and I hunt and try to use as much of the animal as possible. We aspire to have our own chickens both for meat and eggs. Our grandparents have land and we raise a cow every year and that cow feeds 3 families. To say that meat eaters all support the torture and mistreatment of animals is unfair. I have the highest respect for the animals that nourish my body and the bodies of my children. We thank God before we eat for the animals that help us maintain our health.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I completely agree with the urgency of having each pet spayed and neutered keeps animals off the streets and prevents even more animal cruelty. Having local ASPCA perform free neutering for animals would contribute to solving this issue greatly.

  82. I think if people seen what really goes on with their food they would stop supporting factory farming and meat products. It's all about awareness. Once you see that and have that image in your head, you can no longer support eating meat. People will change, we just have to lead them.

  83. I do feel as though animals should have just as much rights as humans. Even though they are not a species that can talk and behave the same as humans, they should still be respected though. If people treated animals with the same amount of respect that humans are treated with then the amount of crimes and killings of animals would significantly drop. I just feel like our government only looks at animals as food for them to survive. We need that to change as soon as possible!

  85. Animals NEED rights. In comparison to humans, most animals are like babies. Helpless against us, they need their mothers, they need food and love. I have been a vegetarian for 7 years. I don't try to push it on anyone else or even talk about it unless it's brought up, but I definitely do not support the way the animals are killed for consumption. I have family in the West who raise their own livestock, free-range, and once they are "ready", they are taken to a slaughter house. My family personally knows every person that works in the slaughter house and they know that the animals are treated humanely. While I do not agree with slaughtering animals for food, I believe that the way my family does it is the most humane way. They use every bit of the animal so that none goes to waste, and only kill what they need. What other people eat is their business, but what companies do to their animals should be everybody's business. In this day and age, there is no need to make the animals suffer.

Just this past year my neighbors cats had several kittens and unfortunately chose to do so in an exterior building on my property (during the winter). When I opened up the building for the season there were several dead newborn kittens, animal control gave instructions on how to dispose of the corpses, but I know that the whole event never needed to have occurred.

I believe there are times when animals server purpose to humans, but I also believe that they should be treated humanely from start to finish. I am completely and utterly disgusted by people who abuse any sort of animal. I also agree that education is what most people need to take into consideration. The majority of people who judge or are judged have no real reasoning behind their doings. They need strong supporters who can teach them the rights and wrongs and show them what is being said and done behind closed doors.

I would calmly and intelligently explain to them that when I hunted it was for food for my family. Also, I used each and every part of the animal that could be used (skin, antlers, etc). What my family could not use or eat, would be put in the woods for the other animals to eat. Now don't get me wrong, I despise people who hunt for sport. I also give credit to those true vegetarians and vegans that are educated on their cause and I support their lifestyle completely!

Why have so many if you can not afford to take care of them, feed them, or want them. Would you throw your child on the street? If not then why would you throw a cat on the street or a dog and expect them to live a healthy, satisfying life? It all comes down to responsibility and it is not okay how animals are treated. Animals are not given pain medicine when they are going throw this torture? That would be the least people could do for them. How would you feel if you were not given pain medicine when going through surgery, broken bones, wisdom teeth being taken out, or anything like that?

  106. Spaying and Neutering is a major issue! I am one who believes that every household pet should be. So many of the critters abandoned on the streets or left at the already over crowded animal shelters are a direct result of owner's negligence. Most people guilty of this claim that spaying/neutering are too expensive for them, therefore they fail to do right by their pets. I think this is a lousy excuse, when you make the decision to take on a pet, you make not only an emotional promise, but a financial one as well. Don't fail your pets, they are your family!

  111. The over population of cats and dogs is a serious situation. It seems like it's a never ending battle getting animals neutered or spayed to help decrease the over crowding in shelters and homeless animals living on the streets. I wish there was a way to have vets go around and give dogs and cats a pill that would instantly neuter or spay an animal and once administered by the vet they would tattoo the animal so other vets would know they had the pill. Let me clarify by saying that I'm not saying that vets will take animals out of their homes against the owners will. This would be a program for people who are unable to get their animal fixed due to costs, organizations that catch stray dogs and cats, and senior citizens who can't get out or living on a fixed income.

I tried to vegetarian once before and I lasted two years and then I don't know what happened. I don't eat much meat as it is now, but I would like to stop all together. 114. The people that are cruel towards animals definitely deserve much more severe punishment. It's been a common theme with murderers that they usually have a history of being cruel towards animals as well. If a person is willing to harm a helpless, affectionate creature, why wouldn't they be prone to committing violence against other people? Cruelty towards animals should be taken much more seriously in the court system because those criminals are dangerous to other human beings too.

Animal cruelty is adopting a pet and then bringing it back to the shelter just because you decided you don't like dog hair on your couch. Animal cruelty is wearing a fur coat just cause it looks good and not knowing the torture behind it. Animal cruelty is leaving your dog on a chain all day. Animal cruelty is giving an animal the thought that they have a chance to do nothing but love you and you taking it away from them simply because it isn't "convenient for you". All animals deserve to love someone and be socialized and sheltered and taken care of and you don't have to beat an animal to be cruel. 149. Animals should have human rights. Animals cannot speak for themselves, and it takes us humans to speak and decide for them. If we understood their language, I believe none of these controversial killings would be happening. We don't understand animals of course. But, if people are killing and hurting animals we don't understand, its the same thing as another human hurting someone they don't understand. Should people start hurting or killing someone they don't understand because of a different language? Of course the answer is no.

  150. I wish I could be a vegan because I can't stand the way animals are treated when being bred for food. Unfortunately, I am severely anemic and cannot live on a meat-free diet. I wish the food industry treated these animals in a more humane way. I don't think humans should have to stop eating meat because it is an important part of our diet, just as it is for other animals. I believe the problem is the over consumption of meat. If people cut back on their meat consumption, the huge factory farms would not be required, and smaller farms which treat their animals correctly will start to prosper.

  151. I agree with some of this. As humans, we are to take care of those lesser than us. It is our responsibility to make sure animals are being fairly treated and to do our best to do so. By spaying and neutering our pets we are ensuring that the population does not keep going up while there are still animals who need a home.

  152. I believe that animals should have more rights than humans, at least humans know what is going on. I hunt but I only kill one deer a year, which I live on. 90% of people eat meat but I guarantee most of them couldn't kill an animal. I feel terrible about when I kill an animal but at least I do not torture and hurt an animal to the put that it dies before it reaches butchery.

  153. I think the reasons behind pet population control would be a great idea to make awareness of. It would be less strays and if controlled enough a possible chance for less fur production because of the decrease in animal population. Sharnice W SCC

  154. Animal rights is the idea that animals of all kinds are entitled to live a free, and natural life. Unfortunately, animal cruelty is common, which is a perfect example as to why animal rights are so important. I am personally not a vegetarian, but the way that animals are handled and treated for human consumption is a disgrace. There has to be other ways to provide meat/poultry for human consumption without having to torture the animals.

  155. I totally agree with this post. Do you see how excited our animals get when we get home from work or school? They depend on us for a lot but they really are a great animal to have around for company. They would do anything for us, if we are in danger they would protect us and make sure we are okay.

  156. I agree with you in saying that animal cruelty is wrong. That being said, I also believe that using animals for certain things is absolutely necessary, but they shouldn't be treated harshly. We definitely NEED to improve on the techniques that we use towards animals!

  157. Animal cruelty breaks my heart. I have had many dogs as a part of my family and I can't imagine them being with anyone else, because if they were not welcomed into my loving home, what would've happened to them? I have always spayed and neutered my dogs because there is no reason to bring more dogs into this world that will more commonly than not, be subject to cruelty.

  158. I am not a vegetarian or vegan. I will not give up meat, as I am allergic to shellfish/seafood/fish. I also grew up in the midwest where it seems more normal to live life on a family farm. I have yet to be on a farm where the animals are treated cruelly or inhumanely. This is a way of life. It is learned at a young age not to get attached to the cattle because in a couple years they will be butchered. There are also cats and dogs on these farms that were dumped and/or left for dead that are given the best life. There are always going to be several ways of looking at things, but this is the way of life for these farmers and their families and it needs to be respected. The majority of people that I know would never in a million years be able to deal with that way of life.

  159. Animal cruelty is extremely wrong. Animals are harmed in so many inhumane ways.

  160. I believe animals should have their own rights! I know they cannot speak for themselves, so that is why we must speak for them. People need to put themselves in the animals situation. How would you feel about being put in a tiny cage your whole life? How would you feel if someone skinned you alive or took off your whole scalp just for your hair? The things animals have to go through day in and day out for human purposes really sickens me. There is no need now for fur, leather or any other animal products.

  161. I am not vegetarian but I totally agree with you on this post. It is completely disgusting that some people are satisfied over beating animals.

  162. While I agree with you that animals are put through brutal situations that they cannot control, I do not think that we should stop consuming them altogether. I believe that God gave us animals for companionship and to help us survive. That means eating them. However, I do think that the way we go about treating them is horrid. We do not have to torture them to kill them. I also agree that overpopulation is a huge issue. There are too many animals in this world that do not have homes as it is. Breeding more and more is not going to help the situation.

  163. I believe there is a certain degree of animal cruelity. There is also a line between antural selection and this. McDonalds how they treat chickens is sickening. However, hunting for livestock in the country I believe is sometimes what is necessary for food. Survival of the fittest is part of this. There needs to be boundaries for some of these things but still it isn't a huge problem compared to human issues so it is often overlooked. Eddie B.

  164. Animal rights should be enforced and coded with more moral respect. They live, they breath, they hurt like all of us do. Do i believe some of the practices need to be addressed absolutely but at the same time we have needs of food.

  165. I stand for animal rights! We are the voice for them! I believe animals of all kinds have the largest hearts and are innocent, they were here before us and its our job to keep them safe.

  166. i totally agree that its sad and a shame that these animals have to endure so much pain and cruelty. we as humans wouldn't want to be treated as such. if they were to do this things at least have the decency to give them painkillers etc. or just don't do it at all. Deanna T
