EARTHLINGS

Want to watch a movie that will forever change the way you think and most likely the way you live your life?

I wholeheartedly feel that EVERYONE is obligated to watch this documentary for many different reasons.  You need to know what is really going on in the world in which we live.  You owe it to yourself to learn what is being done for the sake of food, clothing, sport, entertainment, and much more.

You will be surprised, shocked, and appalled.

Although tough to watch at times,
we also owe it to our fellow earthlings.

Please check out the links below where you can watch the trailer and/or the movie for free.

"Using hidden cameras and never-before-seen footage, EARTHLINGS chronicles the day-to-day practices of the largest industries in the world, all of which rely entirely on animals for profit."

Narrated by Joaquin Phoenix

  1. I watched this and I am very surprised, shocked, and appalled! It was tough to watch, but really opened my eyes about what goes on "behind the scenes" of things from day to day. It's terrible, and I do agree everyone needs to know what is really going on in the world in which we live in.

  2. WOW!
I started watching this movie with the intent to finish it, but I didn’t make it past the first part “Pets”. It got to the point where they where gassing the dogs and they just throwing the lifeless bodies around like it was no big deal. I don’t understand why they feel the need to take dogs off the streets if they are just going to kill them. I don’t know how someone can go to work every day and do that. One day our species as humans will fall to our own demise, and it will all be a ripple effect of what we are doing today. What happens when there are too many people to feed and not enough food?

    1. OMG! Me too! It seemed like an inspirational video, but I also couldn't make it past "Pets." Believe me, I'm sure you don't want to know what happens -__-

  3. Abby, I'm glad you tried. Yes, very hard to watch at times. I definitely had to build myself up to watch it, and I had to look away at times. We need more laws, especially farming laws. It blows my mind that we sit back and allow this!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yes, I do agree that we should have more farming laws. I have also heard of this movement where one only buys things that are made within 50 miles of them. This would include your clothes, food, and other every day things. If this was the case if feel as if one would know more about what they are buying and how it was made. Therefore I think that more people would know what is really going on behind the scene.

  5. I tried to watch this and got about half way threw and I had to stop. It made me phyically ill and I couldn't stop crying. I am an animal lover. There isn't one type of animal I don't find an instant love for and this just tore my heart out!! We fight for equal rights for humans we need to start fighting for equal rights for animals also. This was their land before it became ours and they have the right to live free without the worry of becomming harmed or killed. Just simply heart wrenching....

  6. I have watched that movie several times and, at that time I feel sad for the animals. As soon as the movie ends I forget about it and resume my lifestyle of eating meat. I haven't seen enough of this kind of cruelty to make me change my lifestyle. If this was something I seen everyday, maybe I would change but it is something really not in the public unless you are an advocate of this kind of treatment to animals.

  7. I tried the watching the movie as well and kept fast forwarding. It didn't get any better. I could never work in a slaughter house or even as a butcher. It must take some kind of will power or mental blockage to not think about the animals or the cries as they are being killed.
I guess we as a nation became so blinded as to how we acquire food or clothing and dont think about what happended to the animals for this to become possible. The movie makes you stop and think twice about how you feel towards animals.

  8. I sincerely tried as hard as I could to watch this, so I could understand what was going on out there. I'm an animal lover and a vegetarian. As I was watching this I found myself screaming & I'm still crying. I could not watch this video anymore. That was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen in my life. It breaks my heart to think of all those poor helpless animals. I wish that people would see what they are doing and understand that it is wrong.. that it is so inhumane, so horrible. I feel literally sick from watching this. I can't believe that it is so bad out there for these poor animals.

  9. Im sorry i could not watch this i started the trailer and i knew there was NO way i could watch the film. I get way too emotional with this stuff i can not even sit through the commercials on tv that shows the animals with no homes and this trailer was 100x worse. They were beating the animals, stepping on them, and just do not understand how anyone with a heart could actually do this type of stuff.

  10. I agree with Christina, no one should be able to do this kind of things to animals. Sadly, some people have no morals. Micheal Vick makes me sick to this day, any person who abuses an animal should be have to face punishment themselves. As long as we keep punishment at a minimal than it will continue. Also, the longer us as the consumer buy products - the longer it will last. So, the first step starts with us, switching brands and fighting for animals rights.

  11. I watched the part on pets and most of the food/slaughter section. I am proud to say that my dog is spayed, up on her shots, and cared for to the best of my, and my family's, ability. One of the worst things that I've noticed even in our own community is signs advertising "free kittens" or other animals with no veterinary care. The worst thing for these free kittens is that most people trying to get a free cat aren't willing to pay for its veterinary care or its care in general. My friend's parents are veterinarians so I was able to see the huge volume of cats that they had to care for and heard first hand from them how cat populations are some of the most out of control.

  12. I am beyond shocked and extremely sad. I tried viewing the trailer and stopped it shortly after it began. It was very disturbing to watch, it literally brought tears to my eyes. The little I did see makes me want to change my lifestyle. NO one, animals included, should be treated that way.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I watched the trailer i could not watch the movie. I feel these cruel things are happening all around us and no one takes action to it. I know down the road from my house there is a slaughter house like five minutes down the road and i feel so bad whenever i ride by and see the animal trailer pulling down that long lane. Also there is a butcher shop pretty close too. I dont understand how people can have these occupations and feel no shame. I dont understand how someone could step on an animals head and make blood come out of its nose and not feel the least bad. I feel these things are inhumane and need to be addressed with force.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I watched the trailer, but I knew I couldn't even stomach to watch the movie. This is disgusting and simply sad. It is cruel and needs to stop. Its hard to even comprehend how someone can do such a thing. I agree with Burgandy, how do these people feel no shame? This was disturbing...no one should be treated with so little respect. People act like animals are like a table. Inanimate, replacable items with no meaning. I don't understand, I never will.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have watched this movie twice. Once with my wife and once with my kids to see what they had to say about it. I do feel that the issues we face today to educate the world on the humane treatment of animals but this movie shows only one side of the story and that could be considered irresponsible journalism. It would be like showing how Micheal Vick treated his dogs and saying all dog owners are this way and its just not true. My grandfather was a cattle farmer and pig farmer his whole life and he has never nor has any one ive ever known treated their farm raised animals this way. I have lived around it my whole life and the worse i have seen is how stray animals get treated. I think that those that commit these crimes agains nature should be punished but the attack should not be damaging to people who do it the right way. We need the help of people who have been raising farm animals humanely too but i dont think that they would be very willing if what is being done hurts their business as well.

  16. I actually didn't watch the whole movie, but while watching the portion of the movie that I did, it made me think of animal cruelty in a different way. I can't say that it was enough to stop making me eat the type of animals that I already do, or that it made change my life style, but it did open my eyes somewhat.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I watched all the way to wear our clothing comes from. The prior was enough for me. I realize that there is always going to be meat and in order to have meat there's going to be slaughtering of animals. The way of slaughtering being done is so inhumane. There has got to be a better way with none to very little suffering for these animals. They basically kill them alive! Alot of the animals are still alive even after they have their throats cut open to bleed to death which takes time. That was disgusting...We can put men on the moon, there's gotta be a better way so these animals aren't suffering so badly.

  18. OMG, unbelievable!! I can't watch anymore. I never knew animals were treated this inhumanely. These animals are abused in the worst ways. Can't believe that people treat animals this way. From euthanasia to gas chambers, to slaughter houses.
I am through eating animals. Done!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I made the decision without question that no more meat for me. The way they slit open these animals there is no way I can every eat meat again. My decision was easy. Had I known that this is the way animals are treated I would have given up meat longer.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Frank, for sure there are good farmers out there...of course, I still don't agree with killing animals for any reason, BUT there are people who have grown up on farms or around that kind of stuff their whole lives, so it's all they know. Usually the local farmers are better than the big factory farms. There is no reason to have a loooooong torturing and killing process. People who do eat meat should try to buy locally.

  21. after seeing the trailer in class, I'm not too sure if i could watch the whole thing. the small amount that i saw was sickening and sad. i knew in the back of my head that stuff probably happened like that but it is way different actually seeing it.

  22. Just watching the trailer and a few clips already has my mind racing on ways to change my way of eating. I'm trying to become a vegetarian one step at a time, I've narrowed it down to just fish and chicken so far, and will continue to strive. I can't just quit cold turkey. (no pun intended) I really don't think I could stomach watching the entire movie. I even left the little packet we received in class at my friends barber shop to help spread the word. I don't understand how stuff like this is published and no law enforcement is taking action to stop this madness completely !

  27. I never watched the movie but the trailer alone made my skin crawl. The especially gruesome thing about the movie is to see Americans doing the bad things. Seeing someone from another country doing the tortures sort of removes you from the emotionally charged scene; however, seeing someone who you could associate as being your neighbor, friends, family, etc. doing these things makes it a lot more personal and hurts you even more.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Also to reply to someone's statement up top, my grandfather was a butcher. I asked him if he killed the animal right there in the shop. He said that they were all shot a single time in the head; not a single one suffered needlessly.

  29. When I watched the trailor for this movie in class I was shocked. It makes me sick to my stomach that people can do things to animals without thinking twice about it or without thinkiing its wrong. After I watched it i wanted to become a vegetarian without a doubt.

  31. I did not watch this movie, but from what was shown in class I was throughly disgusted. I have already decided that for Lent i will be giving up meat, and if I can do it for 40 days, then i can continue to do it. These animals need a voice and if it helps I will be one less mouth they need to feed. The way that these animals are tortured, killed, and throwen around is horrifying to think about. Hopefully one day people will get the same treatment that they gave to these animals.

  32. The movie Earthlings seems very graphic. Ms. Norbeck showed our Ethics class a trailer and I don’t think I am brave enough to watch the full movie. The images that were recorded made me very upset and I felt horrible for all the animals in the video. Since I am not brave enough to watch the truth, I urge you to watch it. I know every day millions of animals are being treated with disrespect. They are killed in awful ways and for what. It’s not fair and even though I can’t watch the movie I’m glad these people had the courage to make this eye-opener film. For several years now, I have taken beef and pork out of my diet. One of the main reasons is how they brutally kill the animals. I feel the procedure is unacceptable. I try to urge my friends and family not to eat it as well, but maybe this movie will finally allow them to stop there bad habits. I am aware nobody is perfect and people have to make a living but it just comes down to a level of ethics and morals.

  35. I'm still debating on whether or not to watch this documentary. I was disturbed enough by the preview that I'm not sure I could hand an hour or more of the same images. I know in my mind that terrible things happen in this world to both animals and humans, so I don't think seeing actual video of these happenings is going to make a difference to me. I think cruilty towards any living thing is bad, not just animals. So I already know where I stand on this subject and think the movie might just be a little bit of an overkill for me. The images I saw in the trailer made me seriously nautious and I thought about it for days. So maybe watching the movie just wouldnt be a good idea for me in particular.

  36. I have watched trailers for this movie and yet I can not bring myself to watch the movie. I love animals way to much to see them being treated in a horrible way. I also unfortunately love meat way to much to watch the movie because I know that I will stop eatting meat not only because of the way they are treated but also because its disgusting. The trailers for this movie is enough to know that animals are mistreaded and killed for unreasonable reasons. People are sick to do these horrible things to animals, they are just like us, just aren't able to communicate in the way we do. Even though I can not watch this movie I will tell people I know to watch it beacause it is a good movie and people should know what they are eatting and the way animals are treated.

  37. After Watching the trailer I know that I can not Stomach or handle this Movie. I love animals and think that they should be treated as gently and as kind as you would treat a person. Knowing that I am someone who eats meat and did not know that this was going on makes me upset. We as people don't know how what we are eating gets on our plates, we just know we like it. People should be informed and know how animals are being treated. I really hope that more people watch this movie and take a stand so that these animals aren't tortured anymore.

  38. This video literally makes me sick to my stomach. I can't understand how people can be so oblivious and inhumane. It is a horrible feeling knowing what they actually do to these poor, helpless animals. No one should be able to do these kinds of things to any animal. I saw that some people talked about having laws against this type of torture and I 100% agree. However, until people start taking notice to the horrific things going on and stop buying the products it will continue.

  39. This video is absolutely disturbing. It shows the cruel and evil side of the human race. How can humans treat animals so unfairly? This video reals makes me question why am I not a vegetarian. I would not want to contribute to the cruel torture and slayings of the animals being bred for food.

  40. This movie is CRAZY... i mean we all know that our food and a lot of clothes and things come from animals, but to see the torture and abuse that goes into the slaughter of the animals is just wrong. If an animal has to die to for us to have food or clothes then it has to die, its wrong but we cant stop people from killing animals. What needs to stop is the treatment, the terrible living conditions, the mistreatment and abuse, the starvation, the suffering, i mean you can go on and on. Just get it over with if your gonna kill an animal, do it and be done its easy dont half-ass it,(exuse my french) and watch as the animal is hanging and suffering right in front of you. Its amazing how people can wake up and go to work everyday knowing this is the kind of stuff they will have to do. After watching this movie i will for sure thing differently about everything, food, clothing. Everyone should watch this movie or atleast know about what goes on.

  43. I have watched the movie and truly can't believe some f the footage that was shown. Skinning animals alive, slitting the throats on the dolphins, and going after those poor baby seals is just down right ignorant, selfish, and disturbing that people do this and are able to sleep at night. Its ashame our world is based on selfishness, greed, and money. I can't believe people have the heart and mind set to do the cruel things that they do to fellow "earthlings". I wish these people would wake up and realize the pain and fear they inflict on these animals is wrong and should be taken care of differently or stopped completly.

  44. I truly believe everyone should watch this video. They not only deserve to know how our food clothing and more is being made but should come to the realization that we are the ones promoting all this inhuman activity towards animals. Its horrible to think that we have not a care in the world about the chicken or beef that we eat because we just think its a qucik and easy process. If mor epeople realized what factories were doing to the animals we eat, i think majority would eventually turn to a vegetarian lifestyle. Everyone should take a feww of their time to at the very least watch the trailor.

  45. From the trailer alone it seems like its really sending a mesasage. Having a famous actor in on this, like Phoenix, makes it all the more impactful. I think on this subject if you want to get your point across you have to show some horrible things. This seems like its doing that.

  47. You get the idea from just the first few minutes of the movie. I don't understand how your average human being can simply do these things to these animals. It's almost as if these people get a thrill out of torturing the animals the way they do because I know there must be much much much more humane things that can be done. For example, instead of skinning an animal alive let it live out its life then you can do that.

  48. Just by watching the trailer, I know I could never get myself to watch the whole movie. I will never be able to understand how a person can enjoy inflicting so much pain on an innocent animal. It is absolutely ridiculous. The torture that these animals experience is for the provision of our clothes, shoes, and food. If Americans chose to wear clothing and shoes that are not made from animals, the cruelty of animals may start to decrease.

I mean it is horrible how they kill them, and they could at least give them some pain medicine or something so they won't feel it. But the deed has to be done either way.

  92. Is unbeleivable how people can hurt animals, but sadly i have seen someone be this heartless. There was a lost dog in my yard once and it was cut up on his face, neck, and paws due to the chain that he was on. So when i relized he was gentle i took wire cutters and removed the chain. The SPCA came to take him to get a medical evaluation and to see if they could fnd the owner. Well they did and he wanted to sue me for cutting "the perfectly good chain." After that I was glad to find out the dog was not returned to him, but placed in a better home.

  111. I cannot understand how humans can treat animals in such a horrific manner. There was once a time when animals were worshiped and loved for what they provided. People didn't kill more than they ate and they showed respect and appreciation to the animals. When did the fashion, entertainment, and sporting needs of society become so important that we have began severely abusing and mutilating animals. I am lucky enough to share my life with five animals that I "rescued" from a shelter but really they rescue me every day with their amazing capacity for unconditional love. One of my dogs was so horribly abused even after six years of living the good life with my family he still bares the scars from wounds that he suffered at the hands of incredibly cruel people, yet he loves everyone and even with arthritis he will always get up when I come into the room just to sit by my feet and get a hug. I will always be thankful that these precious creatures have such a capacity for forgiveness that they can look past the cruelty doled out to them from truly evil people, and give love to us. 116. Wow! I am in total disbelief. This documentary was well planned out. I was crying and very emotional watching some of the clips. I could not watch the entire food section it was too graphic. The wrenching and screeching sounds of the piglets and the turkeys was tear jerking. I was intrigued how the documentarist used the analogy of the racism to explain specieism; well done. Prior to watching this documentary I had not seen anything like this. I did know that animal shelters euthanized when they either became over populated or if an animal became deathly ill, but not at these capacities! These realities of animal cruelty are heartbreaking. Understandably, it is only right for people to be upset and advocate for these defenseless animals. It amazes me to see the lack of care, concern, and compassion shown for these animals by their abusers. They are angry, they holler and curse at the animals. How do they sleep at night? Maybe the hostility is displaced anger and also a coping mechanism for the horrible acts of violence they must induce against these animals. Again I say how can they just view this as a job? Death by anal electrocution, really? The entertainment aspect of this documentary is also too much to watch entirely. I am ashamed of my fellow humans that commit these despicable inhumane acts!

The treatment and how we go about killing the animals to get our food is one thing that kind of gets under my skin. America should create a system that prevents random people from torturing our animals. Instead the should be a company that does it for everyone, but they should only kill and feed off of the animals that are on the verge of death or elderly. So that way we give the animals a chance to live out their lives.

  153. I guess I must have grown up different then a lot of people. My mom was really crazy about eating natural but that didn't mean not eating meat. She did tell us what they do to animals like chickens and lambs over crowding them in small cages and killing them but again, my father's entire Italian family killed chickens in their backyards to eat them. Either way, it is cruel but we still have to eat and we are still going to eat. Killing an animal is cruel it doesn't matter how you do it.. Again, as humans we make choices you have the right to choose to eat meat or not. You also choose to eat food that is processed with horrible chemicals. Splenda has arsenic in it but people use it everyday. My mom told me she read a book called Skinny Bitch and after that book you really will change your eating habits. I really don't think about it much but I am not oblivious to the fact that the meat I eat is from animals we kill.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I am not oblivious to the fact that the meat I eat comes from animals we kill but humans are carnivores. We eat meat and have killed animals to survive since the caveman. Regardless of how you kill an animal, you are still killing it. It is cruel because we aren't necessarily killing animals today for our survival but you are foolish to think that the meat just magically gets to your table. My mom told me she read a book called Skinny Bitch and after reading it, she didn't want to eat anything. She said that it explains how chickens are over crowded in coops, lambs are crammed in cages and our food is filled with horrible chemicals including arsenic. Now she reads all the labels on the food she buys, but again, it is a choice she makes and has the right to make.

Not all who sell eggs or chicken raise chickens this way! Not all who take animals to market do these things to their animals.

  163. I agree with Lacy. It's important to know where your food in coming from and know how the animals were treated. I don't believe in animal cruelty, but I do believe in using animals as food (as long as it's done humanly and the animal is not wasted for sport).

  164. A lot of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. When I was younger, I never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. Now, I am much more aware and understand that nothing is worth sacrificing the innocent animals to pain and suffering.

  165. I don't know if it is my but I was in tears. We just adopted a dog from a shelter a 2 year old pit from an overcrowded shelter. She is simply amazing. I have 3 kids 10, 5 and 10 months and she's as gentile and protective as I could ever ask for. After seeing this and realizing what her life could have ended made me feel that much more happier to have her. And when we finish purchasing our new home I will be back to adopt another. Absolutely crazy

  166. Watching the documentary earthlings really touched me. It made me look at animals a different way than before. Humans like animals have so many similarities, for example we both stand on all fours. We have to start treating animals as if they were humans, just because they don't speak doesn't mean they don't have opinions!

  167. This is nothing but a horror movie. I have no desire to see it to the end. I guess after doing evil over and over, people tend to loose their conscience, or how else can you account for the behavior of those worker who do this day in and out. Those of use that still have some conscience can influence the society. Start with your neighborhood. Get the information out.

  168. This film looks so disturbing. I can not believe that people really have jobs to kill animals in such a cruel manner. I understand that we have to eat but is there a better way to collect meat? The clip when the man skinned the animal is very disturbing because the animal was still alive. I am very interested in watching this film.. And I will be watching it today. I might end up a vegetarian after this. Markeda C.

  169. I am beyond shocked and extremely sad. It was very disturbing to watch, it literally brought tears to my eyes. The little I did see makes me want to change my lifestyle. NO one, animals included, should be treated that way. I definitely want to become a vegetarian now. Fatmata K.

  170. That film was very sad! The way that they did that was not right. To skin the animal while its still alive? People need to think of a better way to do that!

  171. Watching this is so disturbing. I barely could keep my eyes on the video. My heart breaks for every single one of those animals. Seeing what they go through is so sickening to the stomach and very sad.

  172. That video was extremely disturbing. I never knew the extent to which that type of stuff happens. Organizations should be banned from performing these actions!

  173. Although I didn't watch the full movie, I did take a look at the trailer. I'm not sure if I could get through some of the disturbing things it shows. However, I understand why people should watch it. There needs to be some sort of wake up call for people to start treating animals better.

This was very disturbing to watch. Frankly there is quite a bit in this film that may be sensationalized. Having grown up on or around farms some of the practices shown here I have personally never seen. That’s not to say they don’t happen but it would be my hope that they are the exception rather than the norm. Doing some research I found that President Obama signed into law the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), “the most sweeping reform of our food safety laws in more than 70 years…”, on January 4, 2011. I would hope that the increased inspections set forth by this legislation would prevent the operations depicted in this film from existing.

  175. While i did not watch the video, I read the comments and have seen some in the past. Skinning animals alive is HORRIBLE and pointless. There is a lot more room for things to go wrong than right when the animal is still alive..

  176. I did not watch the video because i could barely watch the trailer. I just have seen some things i had NO idea happened in this world. What i can not wrap my mind around is how do people do this to innocent animals !

  177. Obviously, skinning an animal alive is unacceptable. If you are going to harvest an animal for something then they should be put down as humanely as possible, not tortured. I would hope that it is only a select few that do these things and not the majority. Even still those groups should have legal action taken against them. I understand that some products that are produced require that life of that animal be taken, which is fine, but do it in a humane way and don't let the rest of that animal go to waste. Use every part of if for something. Corey M.

  180. This is very sickening. I just watch the trailer,i could not watch the whole thing. I have never imagined or thought that is how most animals go through so as i can eat meat. The skinning of the animal when still alive is the worst i have ever seen. I wish there are other humane ways to go about this things.TM

  183. People in the world need to have moral than what the have ow .It id wrong that they treated the dog in the video like that and unacceptable. Animals have right and i think it wrong certian humans violated their rights.

  184. Having grown up on and around both farms and hunting, and being involved with livestock on many levels, I have never once witnessed any actions such as these. I feel though that much of this does not take place in the US, and that our anger stems from the treatment of other countries. Many countries do not have ethics or standards that remotely resemble those of many Americans. I believe that when raised and harvested by USDA standards livestock serves a purpose and aids people who eat meat, and supports the families who raise them.

  185. I only watched the trailer, but may decide to watch the entire movie someday. Not today my stomach is not feeling too well. That 2.5 minutes brought me to tears. I have never given much thought about animal treatment or animal rights, but seeing how these animals were treated is one of the most horrific things I have ever seen. Not sure what the animal they skinned and then showed its face and eyelashes, but that was disgusting. To think that we are harming these beautiful animals to make humans "more beautiful", is something I will not support.

  186. I have only viewed the preview of the movie, but i can not believe what i just watched. How do people live with themselves after doing these things, not only once but probably day after day. I am however glad they made a movie like this, maybe more people will view it and gain knowledge they did not know.

  187. I think this movie should be shown on TV and often. If the world knew exactly what was going on behind the scenes, they'd be more proactive about animal rights.

  188. It is just so hard watching this kind of video even for just few seconds of the trailer. People should be made aware on what's going on with these animals through documentary.
