Welcome
to the Animal Advocates
and Animal Allies
Blog Site!!

This blog was created by college students and me to help raise awareness about animal cruelty, give ways to help, and show cruelty-free alternatives.

Please share this blog with whomever.  The only way things can change is for people to know about the atrocities that actually occur.

Progress is made every day, so there is hope yet!

  1. I have only begun to start reading this site but I think it is wonderful that this is a creation of a professor and students at SCC. You would think that cruelty free alternatives would be a no brainer for everyone but sadly they are not. The best way to shut down the cruelty is to have no demand for the product they are creating. We have a long way to go as a society but this is a great start. Laura E.

    1. I have not paid much attention until now as well. I think seeing these videos help shed some light on how they are really being treated. I know some people treat them like they are their kids and I have nothing but respect for them.

    2. In one of my composition classes, our topic for essays over the semester was focused on animal treatment on farms. Doing the research for papers, I was so shocked to see what happens. Some of it was actually unimaginable. I am happy that attention is being brought to the topic of animal treatment because I agree something does need to be done about it.

  3. I can't believe I've been so clueless to what animals really have to go through. A lot of people treat their pets as their children so this site is so important. People that aren't aware need to become aware even if you aren't an animal lover such as myself. I see that now I'm paying more attention that progress is being made but there is a long way to go.

    1. I have two dogs of my own that are treated just like family. I also volunteer at the Salem Humane Society where I see things that literally break my heart. There have been many days that I leave in tears and I don't understand how some people treat their "pets" the way they do. This blog is a great start to awareness on animal abuse and cruelty not only locally but worldwide.

  4. 4. I have always been aware of the fact that animal cruelty exists but these blogs have been a real eye opener for me. I am a people person but I have always had a soft spot in my heart for animals and children because they need us to take care of them and protect them from harms way. I am hoping that the more we speak out about animal cruelty the more the word will get out and it won't fall through the cracks. These animals need to be protected.

    1. I view animals in the same way that you do. My dog is the most innocent and sweet creature that I have come into contact with, and I know other animals are like this as well. Hurting them and treating them poorly actually hurts my heart.

  5. I have a lot of respect for the students and the professor that created this website. I feel as though we tend to waste our time on foolish things rather than the important things in life. If more people were compassionate as they then the world will be a better place and there were be no animal cruelty.
Thank you for caring for our defenseless animals.

    1. We really do tend to focus on the less important things in life. We take things that we have for granted that others would see as a huge value. I think that a lot of people are in that kind of mindset nowadays. I agree with you, being compassionate can change a lot.

  6. 7. Its so refreshing to see deeper into the things that your professor cares deeply about and bringing awareness to the students that they teach. This blog has showed me a lot about the behind the scenes treatment of animals and how we should fight for the rights that they cannot protect themselves.

  7. I was kind of surprised to find out that this was a site about cruelty to animals. It seems too pretty and bright to be about something so serious. I think it is good that people like you call to our attention the bad things we do as humans. I also find it ironic that we sometimes treat other humans as cruel as we treat animals.

The videos and images are difficult to look at and comprehend. To know that this type of cruelty exists and is condoned by governments around the world is very disturbing. PETA and other organizations like it would have us believe that all animals are treated unjustly but where do we draw the line. Look at your wardrobe, how much of that comes from a petrochemical source? What of the thousands of animals impacted by oil spills every year. There are an estimated 20,000 oil spills a year reported to our government. Do we boycott Abercrombie, American Eagle and J. Crew? The best we can do is to be respectful of our neighbors; the environment and the creatures that live there.

  25. Blogs and other social media are great ways to raise awareness. I use Facebook on a near daily basis to share photos of dogs and cats that are in search of their furever homes. We have a close family at the Salem Humane Society which is a non-funded volunteer only organization. Our goal is simply to help desperate animals to find the human love they so dearly crave. Social media is one of our top ways to get these photos out to the people that care enough to help.

  27. I have always been a lover of animals of various kinds. I grew up alongside different pets owned by my family and developed a big love for them. I couldn't imagine what goes on in the minds of anyone who willfully inflicts pain to an animal. I honestly agree a lot still needs to be done to protect and cater for abused animals. The use of social media would definitely further more awareness.

  28. As a former pet owner and care taker its feel reassuring that blogs such as this one are established and shines a big light on the cruelty that animals endure on a daily basis. 29. I remember reading a post pertaining to this topic sometime last year. As a child I can say that I only visited a circus once. I didn't particularly like it. I never really enjoyed being around wild animals. It is sad to see the way that people treat these wild animals in an attempt to make them demosticated. It is not in their genetic makeup to live this way, and they cannot help the way that they're structured. It is pure torture to treat the animals the way they're treated simply because they cannot understand what is going on. It is unfair and I will never return to a circus or take my children there.

    1. It is really unsettling to think about domesticating animals that aren't meant to be domesticated. I don't enjoy zoo's for this very reason. I don't think zoos should be the way they are. A more effective way I think would be to take in animals that are hurt, nurse them back to health, and then release them back to the wild. It makes me sad to think about them never living in their natural, meant-to-be habitat.

  30. The discussions here are very interesting and the fact that people are starting to make their voices heard over a cloud that has being hanging over our heads for far too long, the issue of animal cruelty is a very serious one and deserve very attention. Way too many people own animals without having enough to care for them, and I believe this must stop

  31. Animal cruelty is a big issue, and I think everyone should be aware of what is happening to animals all over the world. Blogs can help with sharing stories and getting the information out there. I have heard of animal cruelty before but this blog is very graphic and really makes me think twice about companies and circus, and people in general when it comes to the treatment of animals. Its great that this blog makes us all aware of what is really happening to these poor animals, possibly changing our thoughts and views when it comes to animal treatment.

  33. SPCA a webpage that advocates for animals since 1867 speaks of humane law enforcement. Pennsylvania SPCA explains the cruelty and neglect that they deal with and I honestly had no idea this was even a thing and I’m happy to know that there are people actively participating in investigating cruelty and neglect. There are millions of families that allow animal cruelty in their households and that I have personally seen. Not only that but there are legal cases pending for the animals that are under the care of SPCA that means moves are being made and animals are being protected.

  34. Peta2com, I do have to say that although I love the overall website and information it has, being in the school of biological sciences I am not against dissection. Pets is one thing, wild animals another, choosing not to eat meat, being vegetarian another and studying medicine…is critical to the future of our society. Doctors aren’t born with the ability to know how the body works or to see through the layers of your skin. It is all learned and acquired through experimenting and applying the learned knowledge. I don’t stand for LIVE animals being abused but once they die, they can’t see feel or know what’s being done to their bodies.

  35. Defenders of the wildlife gives great information on many points such as illegal wildlife trade, endangered species, tips on how to help endangered wildlife, the most recent congress vs animal safety issues and much more. It’s definitely a website to check out if someone’s into wildlife and the protection of it what really stuck out to me was the illegal wildlife trade. I wasn’t aware that elephants were being slaughtered. The united stated apparently is supplying poachers with a market to sell ivory. Although it is indirectly involving the U.S, it’s an action that brings about tragedy to these animals.

  36. Americanhumane.org! Excited about this page because I love dogs and anyone who protects them! Although this association protects pets and farm animals I’m happy to learn that they also help children from abuse. I probably sound ignorant by not being aware about half of the websites on this blog, but I’m glad to now know they exist. Bonsai kittens, a website that proposes entertainment by intentionally disfiguring kittens- wow! This is cruel but, American Humane association already investigated it and gave some tips whenever we find ourselves on horrifying website like this. Febreze was also a link informing people on dangers and rumors, Check it out, good information to know!

Peta.org, a website I have visited before tells the story of animal cruelty with the naked truth. As I was reading I came across a link where the deployment medicine international (DMI) was investigated and caught mutilating, stabbing, drugging and shooting LIVE pigs. The video that was shown was very disturbing, the pigs were suffering painful injuries for military training purposes. Very, very disturbing video and I’m glad that PETA discovered this horrifying act of cruelty so that it would stop.

  37. Care2.com a website that helps people who care, start a petition on an idea to better the community and hopefully make it a success. The first vide that pops up once you click on the page shows an adorable dogs petitioning for a stop sign on a street where he can be endangered. Great website to know about, especially for elderly people, children and pets who are most vulnerable to danger.

Adopting animals is probably the sweetest thing anyone can do for the pet and themselves. An adoption website is always good to have and the story behind the adoption center is even better! Volunteers just like any one of us wanting to start something good for animals can eventually lead to something so dear like founding an adoption center. Feeding sick and starving pets, setting up feeding stations is how this place came about! Love it!

These statements are very short and powerful. This awesome website helps people who don’t know much about abuse towards animals be aware. It’s also pretty cool that they have recipes on their webpage showing delicious foods that promote vegetarian lifestyles. I can honestly say after reading so much on animal abuse I’ve been eating almost no meat because of how disgusted I feel on the circumstances that animals are constantly involved in.

  41. Looking at a video on humanesociety.org, after a clicked on a link about cows made me cry. The hidden lives of animals raised for food is immensely cruel. Animals are mistreated, crammed in not allowing for movement and suffering. It’s very sad to know that the animals we consume are in factory farms, suffering. This video really upset me especially the first caption that mentioned “Cows are social and complex animals with the ability to nurture friendships, anticipate the future and experience pain, fear and anxiety.” I have to do something to help these poor animals.

I once saw a show called dog nation. A man every year would bring in a box of puppies. They were always euthanized and he was told that. He obviously did not care to kill puppies every year. As a volunteer for the Salem Humane Society, I see firsthand what happens when people don't take care of "pets". Just when I think I have seen everything, we get another 'surrender' or another 'stray'. The looks on their little faces is heartbreaking but what keeps me going is knowing that I work with a group of caring people who will do anything to make sure these animals are safe.
I couldn't have found a better way to volunteer my time and give back to my community.

This is such a great blog to raise awareness. I have always been a lover of animals, and I’m certain that there are many people who love animals as much as I do. However, I’m pretty sure there are still many of others who are unaware on animal cruelty and need to pay more attention going onward.

In reality it's a cruel world out there. Something that could be so minuscule to us is such a big deal to those poor defenseless animals!

They are wild animals and should stay in the wild and in their own environment and not be domesticated and abused for human entertainment. I have never attend and will never attend attend a circus because of the horriable way these beautiful animals are treated.

  111. Cruelty free products should be mandatory. Other means by which to test products should be researched. If enough people would not purchase products that use animal testing, sales declines would force them to change their ways. It is horrible what they do to cats and dogs. They are our pets. They should not be mistreated in any way nonetheless killed for profit from product. They kill innocent lams for boots. The only time an animal should be tampered with or killed is if they are used for meat for our sustenance.
