Is There Blood in Your Boots?

It’s hard to tell how many people actually wear Uggs, but we can say for sure there are a lot!!  Unfortunately, most people do not know of the horrific way these boots are made.
Here’s some info; you can make your own decision whether you think the cruelty is worth the “fashion” statement.  Ugg boots are made from sheep who were castrated without painkillers or who have their throats cut.  Personally, I think the boots are Ugg-ly, but that's just my opinion.  Plus there are plenty of alternatives to Uggs and other cruelty-based items.

Pamela Anderson, who was basically the poster girl for Uggs, announced she will never wear Uggs again now that she learned how they are made:

And the fake Uggs are made from raccoon dogs who are skinned alive.  Check out the site below, but beware the content is pretty graphic:

http://protection4animals.wordpress.com/2011/10/05/raccoon-dogs-skinned-alive-in-china/

Could you imagine if that were you locked in a cage waiting to be skinned alive?!  No way!  Unimaginable!  I'm sure the raccoon dog felt just as scared.

  2. i didn't like nor wanted to wear uggs in the first place and this just makes them even worse! there is no reason why an animal should have to go through this for a ugly shoe. I'm happy that this is up and going around the internet so hopefully people will understand that uggs are truly ugly.

  3. I am going to shamefully admit that I have Uggs. I actually received them for a Christmas present a couple years back when they weren't as popular. When I first received my Uggs I felt a feeling of joy. I thought they were stylish and comfortable. I knew they were made out of real sheep fur because that information is in the package. I never knew the extent to which they made the boots. After reading the startling information I feel a little discouraged and ashamed to wear my Uggs. I just don’t like the fact that I am contributing to the harsh death of the innocent sheep. I feel as though animals have rights. If they could express themselves intelligently they would not volunteer to make Uggs. Since I already have Uggs I probably won’t stop wearing them because that would be a waste of money but I will feel absolutely guilty wearing them.

  7. It's sad the way people mistreat animals. I'd be fine with people wearing those boots and similar products if the animal was killed humanly. It's disgusting to see those pictures and videos of the animals being skinned alive to get such a mundane product

  8. I'm sure they can find alternative materials to use besides what they are using now. Even if they can't, they could use already deceased animals. There's no need to skin an animal alive. Even the barbarians killed their animals first before they harvested them.

  9. Scrolling through the different blogs this one about UGGS really caught my attention because I do have several pairs of them as gifts from either my birthday or christmas. I have always known that a part of their materal was made from sheep's fur, but I did not know how cruley the sheep were being treated around the world. I disagree with the whole fur process, and you would think they could come up with some other material that is similar to sheep's fur instead of harming these inicent animals.

  10. I own a few pairs of uggs , and after reading this article I'm really upset to know to what extent they go through upon making them. It's embarrassing that I wear these things I think are so stylish , but who knows how many animal's lives I contributed to killing trying to be "cute" . The sheep fur isn't even what really MAKES the Uggs. That's not what donates to it's stylishness to me. I wish that they would continue to make the uggs, just replace the fur with something synthetic. I don't understand how they're aloud to do this when animal's have rights too .

  11. I can proudly say I have never had a pair of uggs or ever wore any type of fur from a animal. I do like uggs probably just because they are in style. The are way to expensive though. I was considering getting a pair before i read this.It grosses me out that I would be wearing furs of animals being tortured too death. In saying that I will share the word of how uggs are made and the cruel act lambs endure.

  12. I don't wear Uggs. Never have. I think it's ashame what people do to the animals in order to make these boots that everyone is wearing. To be honest, I am not sure that individuals are really educated when it comes to how and where these Uggs boots are made. If society was aware of the process I don't think as many people would wear these types of boots.

  15. Wearing a specific brand of boots that will make you more "popular" is not worth the torture these animals go through. I never knew the extremes that people would go to to make boots is unreal. This information should be spread to people who buy UGG prpoducts in hopes that the demand for these products will decrease.

Why can't they just shave a sheep and let them grow back their fur and then continue to do it that way? Why do they need to torment them first? I don't even really know why need to kill the animal.. the fur is what uggs are all about, who cares if the outside is "sheep skin" there has got to be other ways for the outside of the boot to not be sheep.

Now that I know they legitly kill the sheep, I dont think i want to wear my Uggs anymore. It is sad how people treat animals these days.

  101. I cannot believe people actually kill sheep for their fur. I read the article from Pamala Anderson and like she said, I thought they just shaved them for their fur. I have a pair of UGGs and I hardly wear them, I feel horrible that some sheep went through that painful death so I could wear my UGGs maybe five times a year. I feel horrible that I let my husband buy them for me for christmas last year! I wish I would of known.

They don't advertise how they get the fur and the process animals have to endure for Americans to wear "slippers". This is just very wrong and unethical to animals.

I never even thought about what they do to make the boots that I love but I rather buy fake fur boots where I know an animal was not harmed in the process. Unfortunately, I think that many of us think about the "fashion" statement that we make when we purchase items that are currently in style. We need to take a step back and think about how these items are being manufactured. Before buying an item, we should do some research on the company producing the goods and make sure that they hold the standards that we as individuals want to live by, and if they don't, simply don't buy their products. 144. Wow, I'm so glad I came upon this blog entry! I had absolutely no idea that these poor animals had to needlessly suffer for a pair of boots!

I personally feel we, as humans, should follow the principle of disproportionality. This principle is "actions that meet nonbasic or luxury needs of humans are prohibited when they aggress against the basic needs of individual animals". If we were required to follow this principle as a society, think about the the hundreds of thousands of animals would be spared the agonizing torture just for human luxury and fashion!

She loves animals but she doesn't have the passion for human and animal rights and the elimination of animal abuse that I have. Now, they refined the "look", reaching more age groups. They also have accessories to "boot". Well, just this morning I was looking at a pair for myself in an online catalog. Now, after this education on the needless suffering that goes into this companies' profits, I changed my mind and decided to save myself a couple hundred to put to better use.

  157. This was the worst by far because I wear uggs and i love them. After seeing this makes me upset and really sad. We pay all this money for these boots an these sheep are being hurt. I know there is a safer way for these sheep to get furred without causing harm. They can save the sheep and make the uggs that way without removing the she eps skin. This just really hurt seen seeing the people throwing the raccoon dogs down, hitting them with sticks, and kicking them. This is unfair. These animals don't deserve this at all.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I'm not an expert but I know there are other ways for people to get sheep fur that would not cause any harm to the sheep. The fact that those sheep are being hurt just for a silly pair of boots is ridiculous. I am guilty.. I don't like wearing boots that could have sheeps blood on them!
